About Me

You don’t make a photograph just with a camera.
You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen,
the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.
– Ansel Adams –

I am a photographer, and my personal interests are a very useful source of inspiration and self-improvement. Talking about them I guess is the best way to introduce myself.

An important reference for my work, is also the pictorial art. As far as I’m concerned, there are artists I find very stimulating such as Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Turner, Van Gogh, Kandinsky and Hopper. The impressionists have truly been a revelation. I’m fascinated by the use of colors and shades of brightness applied in order to create vibrant and emotionally intense atmospheres.

I love music and listening to it makes me experience different intense emotions. I especially listen to classical, jazz and rock music. Beethoven, Stravinsky, Herbie Hancock, Pink Floyd, ACDC are some of my favourites. I find colors, shades, shapes and tactile sensations in both music and photography. The connection between the two is a continual source of inspiration and enjoyment to me. There is an impalpable and profound link between music and image, an intimate one. A link at the heart of which is the emotion at stake. When music and image work together, they reinforce one another thanks to their great expressive power and blend into immeasurable pure emotion.

My passion for the cinema is not second to photography. They are both closely related and contribute equally to my professional and personal growth. I’m charmed not only by the technicalities of cinematography like the photography, editing and colors but also by the script-writing techniques and storytelling methods which I consider fundamental. There’s one author I’d like to mention whose contribute to cinematography has been immeasurable not only in directing but also in editing, set design, direction of photography and even special effects. An eclectic artist willing to express his personality even through the soundtracks in his movies. Who am I talking about? Stanley Kubrick.

Sitting down to a meal is a very important moment we share with the ones we love. It’s all about taste (by all means). I am attached to the scents and flavours of my homeland. The Mediterranean offers a very rich variety of dishes and cooking methods. As for me, I prefer the simple and genuine ones. My grandparents were farmers and on my table I could always appreciate the fruits of their efforts and commitment. I feel lucky to have known these genuine flavours and wherever possible I strive for the best Sicilian gastronomic traditions.

Everyday life is full of moods and emotions. But as often happens in life, we get unconsciously overwhelmed by these feelings instead of living and enjoying them. We fail way too often to find fulfillment in our daily routine because we do not stop and think how what happens in our lives, makes us feel . I entrust these considerations to photography. It is my way of capturing time even if it is just one, unique, fleeting moment.

Thank you for your time.
